The liver is the second largest organ in the body and is the primary detoxification organ, via metabolism of drugs, alcohol and toxins. The liver participates in functions with the cardiovascular, digestive, immune, endocrine and excretory systems. It is also responsible for 25% of the body’s metabolism and approximately 90% of alcohol metabolism.
Phosphatidylcholine (PC) - A type of phospholipid, it plays an important role in overall liver health & function. It is said to be essential for the detoxification functions of the liver. PC is necessary for healthy cholesterol and lipid (fat) metabolism and also plays a role in their transport. It is also the major delivery form of choline.
Choline - A component of phosphatidylcholine, it plays a role in lipid (fat) and cholesterol metabolism and transport. Some animal studies have suggested deficiency of choline is linked with fatty liver and liver damage.
Zinc - As a component of various enzymes, zinc helps maintain structural integrity of proteins and regulate gene expression. Over 300 enzymes are known to require zinc to modulate their activity, including alcohol dehydrogenase, which functions in alcohol metabolism.
As an antioxidant, zinc plays an important role in defence against free radicals and DNA damage repair. Zinc also assists in metabolism of fats, carbohydrates and proteins.
Chromium - It provides support for healthy glucose metabolism and helps the body to metabolise carbohydrates and fats in healthy individuals.
